1 Day Uganda Gorilla Tour

The 1 day Uganda gorilla tour starts from Kigali, Rwanda and may take place in either Bwindi impenetrable national park or Mgahinga gorilla national park. This tour is suitable for travellers on short safari as well as those on a budget safari. It is way shorter to access Bwindi or Mgahinga via Kigali international in Rwanda than Entebbe international airport inUganda, and this is why this short tour is designed to start from Kigali.

Detailed Itinerary of the 1 day Uganda gorilla tour

1 day uganda gorilla tourEarly at 3:00 am, our driver guide will pick you from your hotel in Kigali and transfer you to Uganda via either Cyanika border in Kisoro or Katuna border in Kabale. It will take you approximately 4 hours to reach the national park where you will join other trekkers for a briefing. You may have breakfast during the briefing time.

At 8:00 am, you will hike into the tropical rainforest following specific trails in search for your allocated gorilla family. The trekking time may range from 1-6 hours minutes depending on the movement of your assigned gorilla group. Once you find the gorillas, you'll spend a full hour in their presence observing their amazing behaviour and you are permitted to use your camera to take their pictures and videos. With over 20 habituated families in Bwindi, visitors are certain to meet at least one of them on this 1 day Uganda gorilla tour.

Why consider a 1 Day Uganda gorilla tour?

Like earlier mentioned, this short gorilla tour is ideal for travellers with limited safari time. It is also a relatively low cost tour since it may not involve paying for other safari experiences. Doing 1 day gorilla tour in Uganda also gives you more value for money compared to doing it in Rwanda. The gorilla tracking permit in Uganda is sold at $800 person while in Rwanda it goes for $1,500.

Bwindi impenetrable national park

Bwindi impenetrable national park is Uganda's prime home for the endangered mountain gorillas. The park is located in the southwest of the country not far away from the borders with Rwanda and DR Congo. Bwindi is popularly known for protecting almost half of the global population of mountain gorillas. There are approximately 460 mountain gorillas living within the park Over 20 gorilla groups have been successfully habituated in Bwindi and ready for visitors to trek. Some of the habituated gorilla groups in Bwindi include; Bitukura, Rushegura, Busingye, Oruzogo, Mubare, Habinyanja, Katwe, Binyindo, Nshongi, Kahunje, among others. For conservation purposes as well as making it easy for visitors to see gorillas, Bwindi impenetrable national park is demarcated into four gorilla tracking sectors. These include; Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo and Rushaga. Visitors are assigned to track gorillas in these sectors since they all have gorilla families.

Mgahinga gorilla national park

Mgahinga gorilla national park is Uganda's alternative gorilla tracking destination to Bwindi impenetrable national park. Unlike Bwindi, Mgahinga has got only one gorilla group known as Nyakagezi. This group sometimes crosses the border to Rwanda and then returns after a while. Visitors are assigned to track gorillas in Mgahinga either on request or due to overbooking of gorilla permits in Bwindi. In addition to gorillas, Mgahinga has also got another rare primate species - the golden monkeys. The park is therefore the ideal destination for visitors who want to track both species in Uganda. The presence of the amazing Batwa pygmies near the park also makes it attractive to visitors, especially those interested in cultural experiences.
