Sustainable Tourism Development Policy

With 11 years of Expertise in the industry, Africa Adventure Safaris Ltd focuses on a sustainable tourism development policy within the East African region and seeks to provide the finest nature and culture-oriented tours within the equatorial region. Since 1995, we are delivering memorable adventures with expert guidance to thousands of vacationers to Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Dr. Congo, Kenya and Tanzania.

We therefore look at the greater definition of sustainable tourism. It is referred to as sustainable practices in the tourism industry which would therefore take full account for both current, future economic, social and environmental impacts addressing the need of the visitors, industry, environment and the host communities. (According IUCN and UNWTO)

We would like to emphasize the growth of sustainable development as much of the time we do engage in tourism activities, these include Gorilla trekking, Chimp trekking, Bird watching, Nature walks, Cultural tours, Adventure tours, Camping tours, White water rafting, launch cruise and many other activities.

As Africa Adventure Safaris, we acknowledge all impacts of tourism which are both positive and negative. We aim at reducing on the negative impacts and promoting the positive impacts of tourism in all our areas of operation.

We encourage the productive use of recycled materials.  In most of our activities our visitors are educated on how best they can foster sustainable tourism development.

Aims of Sustainable Tourism Development Policy

  1. To ensure protection of the natural environment, wildlife and natural resources while engaging and managing tourism activities.
  2. To provide authentic experience that celebrates and conserves culture.
  3. Creating socio-economic benefits for communities through employment and income earning opportunities.
  4. To encourage the use of recycled products while on trip/safari.

 Our approach

Our approach in tourism development is demand-oriented, systemic and inclusive. It ensures lasting economic success while taking social and environmental impact into account. We keep in mind the human, financial, natural and intangible resources inherent to the specific destination.

Benefits of sustainable tourism development policy

Here tourism can threaten environment, culture and local economies; it can also provide significant benefits too. For the tourism industry, the key is to try and create a sustainable model by maximizing the positives and minimizing the negatives. We ensure the needs of today are not placed before the needs of tomorrow.

Sustainable tourism development allows the industry to become a force for good. Below are some of the specific benefits which are associated with this approach to tourism development.

  1. Attracting the Sustainable traveler. One of the major benefits of sustainable tourism development is the ability it can provide to those involved in the travel industry and attract customers who are specifically interested in sustainable travel. This is a growing market, especially as people become more aware of climate change and their personal contributions to the problem.

Sustainability creates value addition to the tourism product. Sustainable tourism development can also benefit those in hospitality management, hotel management and similar fields by providing an added value. A good way to think of this is if two tourism-related companies are offering similar products at a similar price, sustainability can serve as a competitive differentiator.

Trust travelers to be responsible. Sustainable tourism helps to create a relationship and between the business enterprise and their customers. This in turn creates a two way dynamic and also facilitates in the sending of feedback from the client to the organization.

Sustainable tourism helps in realizing the tourism potential of a country and also shows how this potential can in turn be well conserved for the future generations.

Sustainable tourism development policy is also a source of information and knowledge about the status of tourism development which at times helps the policy makers and stakeholders to strategies the enhancement of  tourism industry.

Sustainable tourism development helps in promoting the respect for wildlife and their habitats, here it’s important to note that before one visits the conserved area, they need to know and understand the different nature and rules of the park or the area visited.

It also helps in support of the locally made products such as hand crafts which are found in most of these destinations around where mostly the women and the youth are engaged in the craft business which is mostly visited.

As Gorilla trek Africa we have identified the viable key indicators which we follow while promoting the sustainable tourism development in the region and we always urge all our clients to read and understand the rules and principles that govern the national parks before any trip is made.

This is done through provision of written scripts to them during their arrival time and this in turn helps the visitors to analyze on both the environment and the nature of wildlife.

We also advise our visitors to ask for anything in case they are looking for any one within the host community so as to avoid getting interruption from the people and also have respect for the indigenous culture.

We do provide our clients with trash cans with in their vehicles while on road so as to avoid the problem of leakage since most of the things they do use are plastic and we therefore urge them not to dump plastics along the road or even the areas visited.

Basing on some of the core activities such as Gorilla and chimp trekking, Bird watching are one of the lively example of sustainable tourism since most of them are carried out in fragile environment and here is why we urge most of the travelers who travel to our region to take more precautions while on safari to these areas.

We also offer spectacular safaris to the communities such as the Batwa people/pygmies in the areas of Bwindi and Mgahinga National parks since these people’s culture has to be protected from any form of endangerment as a way of sustaining their socio economic ways of life and keeping them more sustainable through making our visitors getting engaged in their traditional dance as a way to make them feel appreciated and protected.

In conclusion it is important to note that, sustainable tourism is the only way to go in the modern day to all the travelers wishing to travel for green tourism as most of the host communities and cultures depend on sustainability approach for both the present and future generation.
