The 11 days gorilla safari is ideal for lovers of primates. A visitor to both Uganda and Rwanda will have an opportunity to have two experiences of gorilla trekking in both countries. Besides, the visitor will also see the Big Five in Queen Elizabeth in Uganda and Akagera national park in Rwanda. A visit to Lake Kivu brings you closer to the border line with DR Congo with spectacular views of Nyiragongo Volcano.

11 Days Gorilla Safari Detailed itinerary 

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National park and nature walk

In the morning you will be picked from the Hotel in Kampala or Entebbe by
the tour guide and set off a scenic drive to Kibale Forest National park
in Uganda reaching in the afternoon. In the evening, you may go for a nature walk to the Bigodi Wetland for primate and bird watching. Dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee guest house(Budget)/Turaco Tree Tops(deluxe)/Crater Safari Lodge / Papaya lake lodge (Luxury).

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to QENP

In the morning, you will set off to the park headquarters for briefing
before going for Chimpanzee tracking, where you may encounter other primates
like Vervet Monkeys, Blue Hoest Monkeys, Black and white colobus Monkeys
among others. Return to the for Lunch and set off to Queen Elizabeth NP
reaching early for evening game drive. Dinner and overnight at Park View Safari lodge / Katara game Lodge (luxury)/Enganzi Lodge(deluxe/budget).

Day 3: Game drive and boat cruise

In the morning, you will set off to the Kasenyi area for wildlife viewing anticipating to see a variety of species. In the afternoon, you will take a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel for more wildlife viewing opportunities. Overnight at day 2

Day 4: Game Drive and Transfer to Bwindi national park

In the morning, you will set off a spectacular drive to Bwindi national
park via Ishasha sector where you will have game drive in search of tree
climbing lions. You will proceed to Bwindi NP for dinner and overnight at
Trekker's Tavern cottage (budget)/Bakiga lodge (deluxe)/ Mahogany Springs/ Gorilla heights/ Four Gorillas lodge (luxury).

Day 5: Gorilla tracking and community visit

Early morning, with packed lunch, you will go to the park headquarters for
briefing before embarking on the gorilla tracking adventure. In the evening, you will go for a community visit to the neighboring community. Overnight at day 4

Day 6: Golden Monkeys tracking

This day can be dedicated to Golden monkeys tracking in the morning and in the evening visiting the Pygmies (Batwa) community in Mgahinga national park. Overnight stay at Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge

Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes NP in Rwanda

In the morning, you will be transferred to the border, proceed to cross to Rwanda and drive to Volcanoes NP. Overnight at Davinci lodge (deluxe)/ Tiloreza Volcanoes Eco lodge / Five Volcanoes hotel (luxury)

Day 8: 2nd Gorilla Tracking

In the morning, you will assemble at the park headquarters for briefing and proceed to do your second gorilla tracking experience, this time tracking gorillas in a different country and park. Once you have seen them, you will be allowed to spend not more than one hour with them before returning to your lodge. Overnight at dinner at Davinci lodge (deluxe)/ Tiloreza Volcanoes Eco lodge / Five Volcanoes hotel (luxury)

Day 9: Golden Monkey tracking and cultural tour

In the morning, you will again drive to the park headquarters for briefing before proceeding to track golden monkeys. This trek is relatively shorter than the gorilla trek and less tiring and guests usually return earlier. You will spend the rest of the day at leisure resting at your lodge. In the evening, you may go for a cultural tour experience at the Gorilla Guardians' village to experience the true Rwandan culture. Overnight at Davinci lodge (deluxe)/ Tiloreza Volcanoes Eco lodge / Five Volcanoes hotel (luxury)

Day 10: Transfer to Gisenyi on the shores of L. Kivu

In the morning, you will transfer to Gisenyi on the shores of L. Kivu. Upon arrival relax at the beach. In the evening, go for a canoe ride with the singing fishermen as you enjoy the views of the beautiful sun set across the Lake. Overnight at Paradise Malahide (deluxe)/ L. Kivu Serena hotel (luxury)

Day 11: Transfer to Kigali for drop off

You will check out of your hotel at leisure and drive to Kigali for a city tour and later drop off at your hotel or airport depending on your schedule.

Covid-19 Control Measures 

  • Mandatory hand washing
  • Mandatory face masking
  • Keep a distance of 2 meters away
  • Before boarding your plane, you will be required to show your covid 19 negative test results which should be valid for not more than 72hrs (applies for both Rwanda and Uganda)
  • Also you are supposed to fill a locator form (link below) which you will also be asked before boarding (failure to have it, you will be denied boarding)

    • Once you arrive in Kigali, you will take another covid 19 test and be in self quarantine at any of the chosen hotels in Kigali for 24hrs as you wait for your covid 19 test results

    You will then start your tour after your results have returned and you are proved negative

    • These results expire every after 72hrs, hence if your tour is still going on, you will need another test to allow you enter any other park or do any other activity after 72hrs of your test. (This applies to Rwanda only, not Uganda)
    • Before departure from Rwanda or Uganda, you need to do another covid 19 test not more than 72hrs before your departure as you will be required to present your results before boarding your departure flight.
    • While on your tour, you are advised to carry your masks and maintain social distance whenever you are in the public
