This called for celebration in Buhoma sector, Bwindi Forest and the entire country has added on the population of mountain gorillas in the Pearl of Africa. The new baby gorilla has increased the number of mountain gorillas in Rushegura sector to 16, which is a great achievement that gives hope for sustainable gorilla tourism in Uganda. Rushegura Gorilla Family

Located in Buhoma sector north of Bwindi Forest National Park, Rushegura is one of the most visited gorilla families in Uganda. Kabukojo is the dominant silverback that leads the entire group comprised of the 4 adult females, 4 black bucks, 4 infants and 3 juveniles altogether. Formerly part of Habinyanja family, Rushegura was officially habituated for trekking in 2000 after 2 years of habituation experience. The family is very active and can be found roaming in the nearby gardens. The family members of Rushegura family include Kabukoja, Kyirinvi, Kibandee, Buzinza, Nyamunwa, Kalembezi, Karungyi, Nyampazi, Kafuruka, Ruterana, Kanywanyi and katabazi. Kabukojo silverback took over leadership after the unfortunate death of Mwirima the former dominant silverback.

How to Trek Rushegura Family
